Here are the results from the WKA Ontario Qualifier held in London on Saturday, March 31. Great results for Pro-Style, as all of our competitors qualified for the WKA Canadian Team Tryouts being held here in Ottawa, May 18-20.Highlights:
- Imran continued his ongoing battle with Nicholas Merlin, winning the weapons and finishing 2nd to Nick in musical weapons and kata. I played a large "supporting" role in Imran's success (lending him my knee brace)
- Brian overcame a dropped Bo in his first weapons round with a strong 2nd round to silver in 12-and-under weapons, followed by a silver in 12-and-under kata
- Saul (who turns 13 this June), did very well competing with the big guns in the 13-17 category, finishing 7th in both weapons and kata. Saul also did very well video-taping some events for me (although he doesn't have his mother's "colour" commentary ;^)
- The events Saul captured include Selina's continued domination of the competitition in fighting (3 wins in 3 weeks).
- James "just call me Pizzazz" was really on with a winning musical weapons form
- Alison's kata win (she also won in weapons) was especially impressive, beating 2 competitors who have been dominant in the division in past years
- Dirk was an Ironman going non-stop, competing in 5 events, qualifying in all with four silver medals and a 4th place
- Paul "I'll think I'll try out for WKA after skipping months of classes" did well to win bronze in musical weapons
- Aditya had an incredible 1st fight, taking the eventual winner into overtime, before running out of gas
- As for me, well let's just say 35+ weapons and kata got a whole lot more competitive this year with Dirk, his brother Jeff, and Michael Paletti now competing. At least Master John is retired (this year anyway :)
- In the 35+ fighting lightweight division, I had an exciting 1st fight, taking the eventual silver medalist to overtime, before loosing 10-9

- James - 2nd weapons, 1st musical weapons, 4th fighting
- Dirk - 2nd weapons (35+), 2nd kata (35+), 2nd korean, 4th weapons (18-34), 2nd musical weapons (18-34)
- Alison - 1st weapons, 1st kata, 3rd fighting
